An example of the design of a scientific article

The journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» is published 4 times a year.

The Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University accepts for publication manuscripts by novice and experienced authors containing relevant, new and original results of scientific and applied research in various fields of legal science, with a view to their further development, solving urgent problems, and interaction between scientists in Russia and other countries of the world.

This goal is achieved through objective monitoring of the specifics and ways to improve the current legislation of Russia and foreign countries, the practice of its application, and legal technology.

The journal accepts articles, scientific reports, reviews and reviews for publication in Russian. These manuscripts should be devoted to legal topics, meet the criteria of relevance, scientific novelty, uniqueness, contain constructive proposals for improving legislation, new concepts aimed at the further development of legal science.

The journal accepts materials from graduate students, applicants, doctoral students, specialists and experts in the field.

There is no fee for the publication of manuscripts and their review. No remuneration is paid to the author(s).

I. RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE AUTHOR BEFORE SUBMITTING THE ARTICLE

Submitting an article to the journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» implies that:

the article was not previously published in another journal.;

the article is not under review in another journal.;

all co-authors agree with the publication of the current version of the article.

Before submitting an article for review, it is necessary to make sure that the file(s) contains all the necessary information in Russian and English, the sources of information are indicated in the figures and tables, and all citations are correct.

articles are placed on the title page (in Russian and English):

i. Name of the author(s)

The authors are people whom the scientific group has identified as the main participants in the presented work and who have agreed to take responsibility for their work. In addition to being responsible for his own part of the work, the author should be able to indicate which of his co-authors is responsible for other parts of the work.

The journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» accepts the following criteria of authorship:

Significant contributions to the design and design of research, data collection, or data analysis and interpretation.

Preparation of an article or its critical revision in terms of significant intellectual content.

Final approval of the article version for publication.

The list of authors does not include people who are not the authors of the article. The names of people who are not authors but have provided other support are indicated in the «Acknowledgements» section.

In Russian, when specifying the authors of the article, the surname should be indicated before the initials of the first name and patronymic (Ivanov P.S., Petrov S.I., Sidorov I.P.).

In English, when specifying the authors of the article, the format «First name, initial patronymic, last name» (Ivan I. Ivanov) is used. Surnames in English must be indicated in accordance with the passport or as it was indicated in previously published articles. If the author does not have a foreign passport and/or publications, the BSI standard must be used to transliterate the surname and first name.

ii. Information about the author(s)

This section lists the title, position, and other regalia. The e-mail address and full postal address of the responsible author are also indicated here.

iii. Affiliation of the author(s)

The affiliation includes the following information: full official name of the organization, full postal address (including zip code, city and country). The authors should indicate all the places of work relevant to the research.

If authors from different institutions participated in the preparation of the article, it is necessary to indicate the affiliation of each author to a specific institution using a superscript.

The official English-language name of the institution is required for the information block in English.

iv. Article title

The title of the article in Russian should correspond to the content of the article.

The English-language name must be literate from the point of view of the English language, while fully corresponding in meaning to the Russian-language name.

v. Abstract

The recommended length of a structured abstract is 200-300 words. The abstract contains the following sections: purpose, objectives, methods, results, conclusions of the author(s).

Annotations should not include newly introduced terms, abbreviations (with the exception of well-known ones), or references to literature.

vi. Keywords

Keywords (from three to ten) should contain words and phrases that characterize the problems of the manuscript.

vii. Thanks

This section indicates all sources of research funding, as well as thanks to people who participated in the work on the article, but are not its authors. Participation in the work on the article implies: recommendations for improving research, providing space for research, departmental control, obtaining financial support, single types of analysis, providing materials for research.

viii. Conflict of interest

A conflict of interest is a condition under which people have conflicting or competing interests that can influence editorial decision-making. Conflicts of interest may be potential or perceived, as well as real ones. Objectivity can be influenced by personal, political, financial, scientific, or religious factors.

The author is obliged to notify the editor of a real or potential conflict of interest by including information about the conflict of interest in the relevant section of the article.

If there is no conflict of interest, the author should also inform about it. An example of the wording: «The author declares that there is no conflict of interest.»

ix. The text of the article

The journal uses the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion; Introduction, Research Methods, Research Results, Scientific Discussion)

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DESIGN OF THE ARTICLE, THE ABSTRACT OF THE ARTICLE, KEYWORDS, A LIST OF CITED LITERATURE AND REFERENCES TO SOURCES

The Editorial Board of the journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» imposes the following mandatory requirements for the authors’ manuscripts and related materials:

One printed copy of the manuscript.

In Russian, the length of the article should be no more than 15 pages; scientific reports – no more than 3 pages; reviews – no more than 5 pages.

These requirements apply to the main content of the manuscript.

Articles are accepted for publication, the main content of which is structured into the following elements:

An introduction that defines the nature and scope of the problems being studied, explains the objectives of the study, and defines any specialized terms or abbreviations used later in the text of the article.;

research methods in a detailed form: an indication of general scientific and special research methods, the geography of the study, and the legislative, administrative, and judicial practices involved. It is advisable to describe the method or methodology of the work if they are new or interesting from the point of view of the presented work.

the results of the study, indicating the new knowledge gained, which can reflect the recommendations, assessments, suggestions, hypotheses described in the article.;

scientific discussion on the issues discussed in the article: explanation by the author(s) of the significance and consequences of the research results.

At the request of the author, the main content

The following requirements apply to the computer set of manuscripts:

A4 format;

size 14;

Times New Roman font;

The line spacing is 1.5;

The page numbering is centered at the bottom;

All fields are 2 cm long;

paragraph indentation – 1.25 cm;

footnotes are page-by-page, automatically inserted, size 12, Times New Roman font (the rules for making footnotes are available in section xiii «Footnotes» of these Rules);

the line spacing is single.

When writing a manuscript, it is necessary to distinguish between hyphens (-) and dashes (–). A dash without spaces is placed between the numbers (for example: pp. 12-14).

A list of references (in Russian and English) is placed at the end of the manuscript (the rules for the design of the list of references are located in section xiv «List of references» of these Rules).

The manuscript should contain the title (section iv «Title of the article» these Rules) and the following information about the author(s) (sections: i «Name of the author(s)»; ii «Information about the author(s)»; iii. «Affiliation of the author(s)» these Rules):

Full name (in full);

title, position (status), academic degree, other regalia;

e-mail, contact phone number and full mailing address of the responsible author;

full official name of the organization, full postal address (including zip code, city and country). Authors should indicate all places of work relevant to the research.;

unique digital identifier of the author (ORCID), researcher identifiers: Author ID in the Scopus scientific literature database, Web of Science ResearcherID identifier (if available).

All information must be provided in Russian and English.

The digital identifier of the DOI manuscript is assigned by the executive secretary of the journal.

A CD (or flash card) with an electronic version of the manuscript in MS-Word (the file is given a name based on the surname and initials of the author(s) of the manuscript).

Review of the supervisor and an extract from the minutes of the department meeting (for graduate students, adjuncts and applicants). The signature in the review is certified by the relevant personnel structure.

Each manuscript should begin with:

name;

last name, first name and patronymic of the author(s);

title, position (status), and other regalia (you must specify the responsible author’s e-mail address and phone number);

full official name of the organization, full postal address (including zip code, city and country);

the unique digital identifier of the author (ORCID), the identifier of the researcher ResearcherID (if any);

a brief summary of the contents of the manuscript (200-300 words; includes the following sections: purpose, objectives, methods, results, conclusions of the author(s)) and a list of keywords or phrases (no more than ten). The abstract and keywords must be translated into English.

Figures, tables, diagrams, screenshots, and photographs are inserted into the text of the manuscript in the right place and arranged according to the sections: x «Figures»; xi «Tables»; xii «Screenshots and photographs» of these Rules.

The editorial staff is not responsible for the quality of these materials.

All manuscripts accepted for review by the editorial board of the journal are subject to mandatory peer review. The review is organized by the editorial board on the principles of objectivity, anonymity and confidentiality. A copy of the review can be sent to the author(s) upon request.

Manuscripts designed in violation of the requirements are not reviewed and will not be returned.

Questions related to the requirements for registration and submission of manuscripts are accepted by e-mail to the editorial office.

The Editorial board does not enter into any other issues or private correspondence with the authors.

In case of rejection of the manuscript by the decision of the editorial board, a reasoned refusal is sent to the author(s).

If the manuscript is simultaneously sent to another publication, the author(s) are obliged to inform the editorial board.

x. Drawings

The drawings must be of good quality and suitable for printing.

All drawings must have captions.

The caption must be translated into English.

The figures are numbered in Arabic numerals according to the order in the text. If there is only one drawing in the text, it is not numbered.

References to the figures should be made as follows: «Fig. 3 indicates that …» or «It is indicated that … (see Fig. 3)».

The caption includes the serial number of the drawing and its name. Aligned in the center: «Fig. 2. Description of vital processes.»

Don’t put a dot after the caption.

The translation of the caption should be placed after the caption in Russian.

xi. Tables

Tables must be of good quality and printable. Tables suitable for editing are preferred, rather than scanned or in the form of drawings.

All tables must have headings.

The table name must be translated into English.

Tables are numbered with Arabic numerals in the order of their sequence in the text. If there is only one table in the text, it is not numbered.

References to the tables are made as follows: «Table 3 indicates that …» or «It is indicated that … (see Table 3)».

The table header includes the ordinal number of the table and its name.

Aligned in the center: «Table. 2. Description of vital processes».

Do not put a dot after the table header.

The translation of the table header should be placed after the table header in Russian.

xii. Screenshots and photos

Photos, screenshots, and other unpublished illustrations must be uploaded separately in a special section of the article submission form as * files.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif (*.doc and *.docx — if additional markings are applied to the image). The image resolution must be >300 dpi. Image files must be given a name corresponding to the image number in the text. In the description of the file, a caption should be provided separately, which should correspond to the name of the photo placed in the text.   

xiii. Footnotes

Footnotes are numbered in Arabic numerals and placed page by page. Footnotes may contain: links to anonymous sources on the Internet, links to textbooks, manuals, state standards, statistical reports, articles in socio-political newspapers and magazines, abstracts, dissertations (if it is not possible to cite articles published based on the results of dissertation research), author’s comments.

xiv. The list of literature

The list of cited literature should contain references exclusively to scientific sources in the amount of at least 15, some of which are works indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.

The structure of this list should be arranged in alphabetical order. Initially, publications in Russian are reflected, after that – foreign sources.

The journal uses the Vancouver citation format, which implies referring to the source in square brackets and then mentioning the sources in the list of references in the order of mention. The page is indicated inside parentheses, separated by a comma and a space after the source number: [6, p. 8]

The list of references includes only peer-reviewed sources (articles from scientific journals and monographs) mentioned in the text of the article.

It is undesirable to include in the list of references abstracts, dissertations, textbooks, manuals, GOST standards, information from websites, statistical reports, articles in socio-political newspapers, on websites and blogs. If it is necessary to refer to such information, information about the source should be placed in a footnote.

When describing a source, its DOI should be indicated if it is possible to find it (for foreign sources it is possible to do this in 95% of cases).

References to articles accepted for publication but not yet published must be marked with the words «in print»; the authors must obtain written permission to link to such documents and confirmation that they have been accepted for publication. Information from unpublished sources should be marked with the words «unpublished data/documents», and the authors should also receive written confirmation of the use of such materials.

Links to journal articles must include the year of publication, the volume and number of the journal, and page numbers.

All authors should be included in the description of each source.

The links must be verified, and the output data must be checked on the official website of the journals and/or publishers.

It is necessary to translate the list of references into English. After the description of the Russian-language source, an indication of the language of the work is placed at the end of the link: (In Russian).

The BSI standard should be used for transliteration of authors’ names and journal titles.

The name of the journal and the names of monographs and collections are italicized, with dots after the initials. Do not put a comma between the author’s last name and initials.

II. How to submit an article for review The manuscript of the article is sent to the editorial office by e-mail urv@kubsu.ru . The article file must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (with the extension *.doc, *.docx).

III. Interaction between the journal and the author

The editorial board of the journal conducts correspondence with the responsible (contact) author, however, if desired by the team of authors, letters can be sent to all authors for whom an email address is specified.

All articles submitted to the journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» are pre-checked by the executive secretary of the journal for compliance with formal requirements. At this stage, the article can be returned to the author(s) for revision with a request to correct errors or add missing data. Also, at this stage, the article may be rejected due to its inconsistency with the goals of the journal, lack of originality, and low scientific value.

After a preliminary review, the responsible editor submits the article to the reviewer with an indication of the review period. A corresponding notification is sent to the author.

In controversial cases, the editor may involve several specialists in the review process, as well as the editor-in-chief.

If the reviewer gives a positive opinion, the article is sent to the editor for preparation for publication. When deciding whether to finalize an article, the reviewer’s comments and observations are sent to the author. The author is given 2 months to eliminate the comments. If the author has not notified the editorial board of the planned actions within this period, the article is removed from the publication queue.

When making a decision to refuse to publish an article, the corresponding editorial decision is sent to the author.

The final version of the layout is sent to the responsible (contact) author of the accepted article, which he is obliged to check. A response is expected from the authors within 2 days. In the absence of a reaction from the author, the layout of the article is considered approved.

IV. The procedure for reviewing the decisions of the editor/reviewer

If the author does not agree with the conclusion of the reviewer and/or the editor or individual comments, he may challenge the decision. To do this, the author must:

to correct the manuscript of the article according to the reasoned comments of the reviewers and editors;

clearly state your position on the issue under consideration.

The editors facilitate the re-submission of manuscripts that could potentially be accepted, but were rejected due to the need to make significant changes or collect additional data, and are ready to explain in detail what is required.

V. Editorial board’s actions in case of plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data are detected

In case of detection of unfair behavior on the part of the author, detection of plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, the editorial board is guided by the COPE rules.

By «unfair behavior», the journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» means any actions of a scientist, including improper handling of objects of study or deliberate manipulation of scientific information, in which it ceases to reflect the observed research, as well as the behavior of a scientist who does not meet accepted ethical and scientific standards.

The journal «Legal Bulletin of the Kuban State University» does not classify honest mistakes or honest discrepancies in the plan, conduct, interpretation or evaluation of research methods or results, or unfair behavior unrelated to the scientific process, as «unfair behavior».

VI. Correction of errors and review of the article

If errors are found in the text of the article that affect its perception, but do not distort the stated research results, they can be corrected by replacing the pdf file of the article and indicating the error in the article file itself and on the article page on the journal’s website.

If errors are found in the text of the article that distort the results of the study, or in the case of plagiarism, the discovery of unfair behavior of the author(s) related to falsification and/or fabrication of data, the article may be withdrawn. The initiator of the article review may be the editorial board, the author, an organization, or an individual.

The withdrawn article is marked with the sign «Article withdrawn», information about the reason for the withdrawal of the article is posted on the article page. Information about the review of the article is sent to the databases in which the journal is indexed.

Preparation of articles

To submit an article, the authors must confirm the following points. The manuscript can be returned to the authors if it does not match them.

This article has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted for review and publication in another journal (or an explanation for this is given in the Comments for the editor).

The file of the submitted article is presented in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF or WordPerfect document format.

Full Internet addresses (URLs) for links are provided where possible.

The text is typed with one-and-a-half line spacing; a font size of 14 points is used; italics are used instead of underscores (with the exception of Internet addresses); all illustrations, graphs and tables are located in the appropriate places in the text, and not at the end of the document.

The text meets the stylistic and bibliographic requirements described in the Authors’ Guide located on the «About the Journal» page.

If you submit an article to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, then the requirements of the Blind Review document have been met.
