Annotation: In the article the author draws attention to the need for a lawyer to provide a reasonable approach to his workload in order to provide proper and high-quality legal assistance to the client. The negative impact on the quality of the legal assistance provided with an unreasonable approach to the distribution of the workload of lawyers by appointment is considered. The author proposes to solve these problems by introducing a number of additions into the current legislation, in particular, by increasing the professional legal experience required for admission to the qualification exam, prior to acquiring the status of a lawyer, as well as a quantitative limitation of cases per one appointed lawyer.

Keywords: advocacy, reasonable level of workload, quality of legal assistance provided, professionalism, attorneys by appointment.
